Day 13, REST DAY 2, Monday, September 06, 2010
Savannah, GA
Up at 6:15, 7:15 continental breakfast at hotel. At 8:45 I met with the concierge here at the hotel and booked a cruise on the Dolphin Magic, a 41 ft. twin engine turbo charged vessel for a cruise down the Savannah River. We left at 11:30 for a 2 hour trip around several Forts, Islands and light houses. It was mostly sunny and breezy. These conditions were a set up for sunburns. However, I got there early so was one of the first to get on the boat and I sat under a section of the boat that had a roof. The real reason I booked this cruise was to observe Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphins and we did see them frolicking around our boat and wake.
Prior to the cruise, at 9:15 I had a radio interview with a radio station back in Fredericksburg, VA. It went very well. I commented on my effort and website and also their Memory walk and encouraged listeners (they just needed the motivation and time) to consider doing what I do, long distance cycling for an Alzheimer fundraiser. The station manager will weave my comments into an interview he will be doing on air this Thursday with an Alz. Assoc. representative from Fredericksburg. That interview will focus on their Memory Walk coming up this Saturday, Sept. 11.
When I got back from the cruise, I was going to do a trolley tour, but changed my mind -- too hot. I went out to dinner tonight to "Five Guys" with Ken. We had shell peanuts, cheeseburgers and fries. Most of other other cyclists went to a fancier restaurant. Tomorrow is a 79 mile ride to Brunswick, GA.
