The Ride for Alzheimer's is On!

Thursday, July 6, Day 3 of ride

Rode 73 miles today. Wake up call didn't happen, but roommate Chris just happened to wake up at 6:30. Rained last night, overcast now. I was unable to dial out on the AOL 1-800 number last night or this morning (busy ???). I will try later today at Ramada Inn in Quincy.

Route today was much better than yesterday, not so hilly but much more traffic, narrow roads, often no breakdown lane at all. Many large trucks and 18 wheelers, some polite and cautious, some not. Sometimes it is necessary to just stop and get off the road.

It stayed overcast till about noon when I stopped for lunch. Huge glass of ice water/large Pepsi/chicken salad sandwich/ potato salad. I have been drinking lots of water. Now it is hazy, hot, & humid.

I rode on Rt. 24, a 4-lane divided highway, for 6 miles. As many of you know this is illegal in CT. It seemed very strange.

Got to the Mississippi River and had to go over a very narrow 2-lane bridge that had no breakdown lane and if two 18 wheelers were to pass each other, their mirrors would probably hit. Quite scary, however I did take some pictures.

Welcome to Illinois!
Welcome to Illinois, that's me!

Did laundry today, not very glamorous but necessary. I finally connected to AOL at 5:30. Buffet dinner tonight, salad/spaghetti/baked chicken/mixed veg./ice cream.

109 mile ride tomorrow, Quincy to Springfield, Ill.

I'm scheduled to meet Marilyn Schafer of Land Of Lincoln Alzheimer's chapter at 3:30 tomorrow at Ramada Inn in Springfield. Most of the ride will be on Rt. 104. Forecast is Hot Hazy Humid, I expect it to be tough.
