Day 6, Friday, June 10, 2005

Sparks, NV to Lovelock, NV
90.7 miles, 16.7 mph, 5hr 24min 20 sec

Up at 5:15, 6:00 breakfast at Denny's, 7:00 load luggage, 7:30 on the road. The weather today started out with wet roads but clear and cool. The prediction is for a very nice day for cycling - HOORAY!!!!

We were all very happy to have such a nice start and it was supposed to just get better and it did. At 3.4 miles we entered I-80 and rode it for 29 miles to SAG 1. Traffic was quite heavy for about 8 miles and then it thinned out. There were a lot of 18 wheelers (doubles and some triples). I got a flat (front), changed it and continued on. Because it was such a nice day, I was able to take advantage of many photo opps.

After leaving SAG 1, we got back on I-80 and rode another 35 miles to SAG 2. The traffic was minimal and it was nice to ride in relative quiet. At SAG 2 we refilled our water bottles and consumed various energy snack foods. Paul was looking at a local map and was heard to say "according to this map, we only have one and a half inches to go today". This turned out to be the "quote of the day".

Even though this was a 90 mile riding day, it passed quickly. There were no hills and we often had a tailwind. I got to the Ramada Inn/Casino about 2 PM. I quickly found the resident computer expert and he lead me through the DSL connection that was in the lobby. I then sent Ed a huge amount of data in a very short period of time. I hope I can remember the process.

We had route rap and then dinner at 6 PM. Then I worked on my journal. I hope to send it to Ed tonight.
