Day 5, Thursday, June 9, 2005
Truckee, CA to Sparks, NV - 50 miles, 10.6 mph, 4h 36m 12s
Up at 5:15, 6:00 continental breakfast at hotel, 7:00 load luggage, 7:30 on the road.
Raining again today, but lightly - here we go again. Two wicking shirts, cycling shirt, raincoat, regular cycling shorts and long tights. Two miles out we had a 5 mile climb at 6 to 7% grade - it was tough. We climbed to Brockway Summit, elevation 7,179 feet. We descended to Incline Village. There were some nice views of Lake Tahoe there and some spectacular views on the climb up Mt. Rose (8.2 miles) but fortunately only 4 - 6% grade. When we reached the summit, 8,991 ft the temp was about 38F. Michelle told us that it had snowed about 2 hours ago. I made a snowman!
There was also a newspaper reporter that came by, interviewed some of us and will be writing an article about our ride for her newspaper in Incline Village. The descent down Mt. Rose was for almost 17 miles with many hairpin turns and switchbacks. It rained off and on till I got to the hotel. There were many photo opps today.
