Day 7, 54 miles, Monday June 1, 2009
Lexington "Loop"
(my odometer: 33.4 miles, 12.8 avg. mph, 2hr 36min, 14s)
Max speed: 32.1 mph
Up at 5:30; 6:00 continental breakfast at hotel: breakfast pizza, Danish, assorted cold cereal(raisin bran), assorted cut fruit, orange juice; 6:50 on the road. The forecast for today was for "Mister Sunny" all day. I asked Vivian if she wanted to go with me today and she said "Sure! Of course I do!" So I put her up on my aero bars and off we went.
Paul and I both planned to do a shortened ride today. Paul has some friends to meet early this afternoon and I do not want to aggravate my shoulder by doing more than 35 miles. The SAG was at 16.5 miles so we rode to the SAG and back to the Hotel. This turned out to be 33.5 miles. However, I did have some discomfort, but not as bad as the last two days. Checkout the elevation graph and you'll notice that there were 2 very steep climbs early in first 9 miles. They really were tough! There also were some very nice scenic views, especially along the Maury River .
We arrived back at the hotel at 10:30 AM. This gave both of us plenty of time to do what we needed. Paul did some constructive preparation for his friends. Actually, I layed down on my bed and had a 45 min nap! Then I cleaned up and went down town for lunch at Salarno's, a small restaurant. I had a rather large 16in sub. (see pic) I brought 1/2 of it back to the room and had it for dinner. The was no RAP tonight, it will be tomorrow at 6:45AM and then we will find out if we are going to Peaks of Otter or Roanoake tomorrow.
At "mechanics time" today Jim replaced my rear brake cable and "tweaked" my chain ring derailer.
