6 Day Southeastern CT Tour 2
Groton, New London, Waterford, Montville, Norwich, Preston, Ledyard

Day 3 Tuesday, August 19, 2014
41.4 miles, 12.6mph, 3h 16m 29s
Groton, Mystic, Stonington, N. Stonington, Ledyard

Perfect cycling weather again today! Ride start was at the Groton Board of Ed. Building on Flanders Road. Longtime supporter Dale Hoxie joined me for today's ride. Just before we were going to start the ride, Tim Cook, a New London Day photographer showed up. Apparently, Kelly Catalfamo, a N.L.Day reporter urged him to come to the ride start to take some photos. Kelly came to our house yesterday afternoon to interview us for an article that hopefully will be in The Day newspaper or the Thames River Times soon.

When a cyclist plans to do a ride, there are many little things that they need to do prior to the ride start and take with them. What those things are, depends on what they want, where they are, where they are going and how long the ride will be. Sounds complicated, but it's really quite simple. Well, when I was driving to the start, I realized I forgot to bring my water bottles. So, I had to go back to the house to get them. When, I got to the start, I realized that I forgot to bring my camera (so I could take photos for the website). I called Donna and she brought it to me. That delayed the start but it gave me a chance to chat with Tim about my Alzheimer's effort. When we were 6 miles out, I realized I forgot to put my Clif shot BLOKS, an energy chew that I use, in my back pocket. I feel they help me on long rides, riding into a head wind and climbing hills.

The ride took us down scenic River Road, through downtown Mystic, Stonington Borough and Stonington Point - some of the most scenic places here in coastal Southeast CT. The route then continued down Greenhaven Rd next to the Pawcatuck River, up to N. Stonington village and back RT 201 to Groton B.O.E office parking lot. Tomorrow is a REST day. I'll probably mow the lawn, weed the garden, go to the gym for a workout, cut and stack wood and OOPS - can't forget to take Donna out to lunch at "Abbott’s Lobster in the Rough." I better not forget! lunch!
